What I believe

I believe that all students need a safe and caring school environment. We can create this environment through unconditional positive regard, recognizing the dynamic and complex lives of our students. Systems change is just as important as our individual actions, and only through systems change can we truly create equity for all.

What I do with my time

 I teach undergraduate students at the Community College of Vermont in Winooski
I teach in-service teachers in graduate courses at Castleton Center for Schools and  Antioch University New England.
I facilitate professional development for teachers and support schools as they work toward implementing trauma-informed practices.
I work part-time as a Community Facilitator for Edutopia
I am the co-founder of the Nurturing the Nurturers collective, a healing community for educators
I write about trauma-informed education.

My background

I’m a former school leader and teacher at a small alternative therapeutic high school near Burlington, Vermont.

I attended the University of Vermont for my degree in Secondary Education – English and Antioch University New England for my Master’s Degree in Education.

I love cats, especially my tortie cat Charlie
I’m in the Vermont 251 club, where you attempt to visit all 251 towns & cities in the state! Next time you see me, ask what number I’m up to.
